For those interested in learning more about what “Generative AI” means and its significance in the IP context, this session is for you.
Dr Hughes will look at the way in which the generative AI landscape continues to evolve, the challenges and opportunities it presents to all intellectual property lawyers, both on a substantive level, in copyright and patent law (including latest trends and learnings from the cases), and practical tips and traps. Dr Hughes will discuss the potential risks and rewards in the use of generative AI systems in legal practice, the latest developments in international courts and tribunals, the responses of legislative bodies to these new challenges, and emerging issues in generative AI, which stand to become future flash points. |

Dr Hughes has significant advocacy experience in Australia and extensive technological expertise, developed in his previous career as a computer programmer and information systems manager at large corporate organisations. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems) as well as his PhD in patent law, and his thesis analysed the complex issue of whether software should be patentable. Anton is the founder of Tiro, a cloud-based practice management solution, and is a foundation member of the innovation and Technology Committee of the NSW Bar Association. | |
