His Honour Justice Besanko KC will provide commentary on interesting decisions in trade marks in which His Honour has participated, the election issue that arose in Australian Mud Company Pty Ltd v Globaltech Corporation Pty Ltd (No 5) and, if time permits, the construction of claims in a patent.

SPECIAL GUEST: The Honourable Justice Anthony Besanko

The Honourable Justice Besanko was a Federal Court Judge from 3 April 2006 to 7 May 2024. His Honour was also Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island, and Additional Judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.

Before His Honour’s appointment to the Federal Court, Justice Besanko was a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia from 2001 to 2006. From 1984 to 2001, His Honour practiced at the South Australian Bar in commercial and company law, administrative law, trusts and estates and native title. His Honour also undertook appellate work and was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 1994.

Justice Besanko was a member of the South Australian Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal from 1989 to 1998, and Presiding Member of the Tribunal from 1998 until 2001. His Honour was President of the South Australian Bar Association from 2000 to 2001.
